Tehran, May 20: In a tragic incident, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, along with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, died in a helicopter crash in the northwest of Iran, state media Press TV reported.
The crash occurred as President Raisi was traveling to the city of Tabriz after returning from an inspection of the Iran-Azerbaijan border area. The helicopter encountered heavy fog, leading to the fatal accident.
Among the other victims were East Azarbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati and Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, the Imam of Friday Prayer in East Azarbaijan, along with several other passengers.
State news agency IRNA reported that following the death of the president and the foreign minister, the government cabinet convened an emergency meeting to address the crisis.
This tragic event has left the nation in mourning, as citizens and officials grapple with the sudden loss of their leadership.
