Kupwara, Kashmir: In a remarkable example of selfless service, Bilkees Ara, from Kupwara district, an ASHA worker and president Red Drop NGO women’s wing, Jammu and Kashmir, has earned the title of ‘Blood Lady’ after donating blood 42 times, saving countless lives across the Kashmir Valley.
Her journey began in 2012 when her cousin developed serious complications after childbirth and was shifted to Srinagar’s LD Hospital. Witnessing patients struggle to arrange blood left a lasting impact on her, prompting her to pledge regular blood donations.
Since then, Bilkees Ara has continued donating blood without discrimination, transcending barriers of caste, creed, religion, or region.
“I do not see caste, colour, religion or background. I donate blood purely for the sake of humanity,” she said.

Health officials and locals in Kupwara have lauded her dedication, calling her an inspiration and a role model for women and youth, encouraging voluntary blood donation.
Bilquis Ara’s story stands as a powerful reminder that true service lies in compassion saving lives one drop at a time.
