Tehran, May 19, 2024: In a dramatic incident caused by heavy fog, a Mi-171 helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made an emergency “hard landing” in Azerbaijan. The delegation was on an official visit to the country when the incident occurred approximately 600 km from Tehran.
Despite the challenging conditions, both President Raisi and Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian emerged unscathed. The helicopter was part of a convoy that included two other helicopters, which managed to land safely.
Emergency services were quick to respond, ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers. The cause of the fog and the details of the hard landing are currently under investigation.
The Iranian government has expressed relief at the safe outcome and extended gratitude to the Azerbaijani authorities for their prompt assistance.
