Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday alleged that a Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament from Jammu and Kashmir spent the bulk of his Constituency Development Funds in Uttar Pradesh instead of the Union Territory, calling it a glaring contradiction between the party’s claims and its actions.
Addressing reporters in Srinagar, Abdullah said that (Ghulam Ali) Khatana, who was sent to Parliament by the Bharatiya Janata Party through nomination, utilized more than 90 percent of his CDF allocation in Uttar Pradesh.
The Chief Minister pointed out that Khatana belongs to Jammu and Kashmir, resides in the Union Territory, and has official accommodation here, yet chose to spend the majority of development funds outside the region.
“They talk about Kashmir, but their actions are different. This is what I am saying, their deeds and their words do not match,” Abdullah said, accusing the BJP of maintaining a dual approach when it comes to issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir.
He maintained that public representatives nominated from the Union Territory should prioritize developmental needs within Jammu and Kashmir, particularly when the funds are meant to support local infrastructure and welfare initiatives. [KNT]
