Sonawari: Abrar Rashid, son of jailed Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid, demonstrated the Awami Ittihad Party’s (AIP) growing influence in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district by organizing massive rallies in the Shahgund, Gundiboon, and Ganastan areas on Friday afternoon.
Addressing the large crowds, Abrar welcomed the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) announcement of upcoming elections in Jammu & Kashmir. He responded to critics who had dismissed his father’s supporters, saying, “Those who claimed that people wasted their votes by voting for my father have been proven wrong. Our legal team is working hard to secure his bail, and soon he will be out of jail.”
Abrar reassured the public about ongoing MPLAD projects, ensuring that all regions receive their fair share of funds. He expressed confidence in the AIP’s prospects in the assembly elections, scheduled to begin on September 18, stating, “We are confident that our party will secure a good number of seats.”
He also addressed criticisms from political opponents, including Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, who alleged that his father’s victory would bolster extremist movements. Abrar dismissed these claims, reaffirming his commitment to a peaceful and prosperous future for the region.
Speaking with reporters, Abrar Rashid highlighted the AIP’s dedication to working for the welfare of the poor and ensuring their voices are heard. He pointed out the public’s dissatisfaction with traditional politics in North Kashmir, which contributed to Engineer Rashid’s previous electoral success.
Abrar reiterated his support for the ECI’s decision to schedule the assembly elections, expressing hope that the people would once again rally behind the AIP, strengthening their mandate for change.
