Doda, June 25: For the first time in history of Jammu and Kashmir, the IPL style cricket league will be organised in Bhaderwah town of Doda district in which players will be bought through an auction.
The tournament has been named as Bharat Premier League and the man behind this idea is Adil Ganai of Bhaderwah who wants to give cricket a new direction in Chenab valley.
There will be 12 teams in the tournament and 300 players from three districts of Chenab valley, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban, will be registered for auction and the registration will commence from June 26. One team will be able to buy 16 players and no player from outside Chenab valley will be allowed for the registration.
Talking to Current Matters, Adil Ganai said that the idea is to promote local cricket and give budding cricketers a chance to showcase their talent. “We have decided to begin with 12 teams for this league and interested owners of district Doda will be allowed to put forth their names. We have already got more than two dozen names but will shortlist only 12 names and those people will be preferred to buy teams who have remained associated with cricket in the past,” Ganai said.
For the last many years, cricket in Chenab valley had suffered a lot due to influx of players from outside Jammu and Kashmir which didn’t allow local players to grow. Jammu and Kashmir cricket association and other cricket related bodies have also been indifferent to Chenab valley as not a single stadium has been developed in these three districts where local budding cricketers could have grown. Not even turf pitches and net pitches have been sanctioned for any of the ground where youth could learn the art.
Now, for the first time Adil Ganai and his team has taken a step towards promoting local cricket and cricketers and IPL style cricket league will be held in Bhaderwah.
“There will be two categories of players, seniors and juniors. The base price for senior players will be Rs 2000 whereas for junior players it will be Rs 1000 and the upper limit for an owner to spend in buying players will be Rs 1.5 lakh. Firstly the offline registration mode will be thrown open in Bhaderwah tomorrow and after that online mode will be also introduced. We want to ensure transparency at every level and once any player is bought, the team owner will have to transfer the amount into players account immediately,” he said.
The league will be played in the month of August in government degree college ground in Bhaderwah, Adil Ganai added.
