Udhampur: A student of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu died in a road accident near Udhampur while traveling with fellow students to Patnitop, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Anjali Choudhary, a fourth-semester student of the college.
Officials said the exact circumstances surrounding the accident are being ascertained.
The incident has triggered shock and grief across the academic community, with the Higher Education Department describing the loss as that of a young life with promise and aspirations.
Minister for Higher Education expressed deep anguish over the tragedy and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and the college fraternity. She termed the loss deeply distressing and directed that all possible assistance be extended to the family.
The Commissioner Secretary, Higher Education Department, along with Director Colleges, nodal principals, principals, faculty members, and students also expressed profound sorrow and extended their sympathies to the grieving family.
