Baramulla: A newly constructed double-storey residential house collapsed suddenly in Baliharan Singhpora area of Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday, officials said.
The house, belonging to Fayaz Ahmed Wani, was reduced to rubble after the structure caved in without warning, flattening completely to the ground.
Officials said no one was present inside the building at the time of the incident, and no injuries or loss of life were reported.
The incident has raised concerns over construction safety and structural stability, particularly in newly built residential structures.
Locals said the collapse occurred abruptly, leaving residents in the area shocked as the building came down within moments.
The entire incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, which showed the structure collapsing in a cloud of dust, they said.
Authorities said the cause of the collapse is being ascertained.
Experts say such incidents can occur due to factors including poor construction practices, weak foundation, substandard materials or structural design flaws.
Neighbours have called for an inquiry into the incident to determine the exact cause and ensure accountability if any negligence is found.
