Budgam: Locals of the Soibugh area in Budgam district on Friday held a silent protest outside the Power Development Department office at Soubug, demanding an extension of the PDD Amnesty Scheme in view of the prevailing economic hardships faced by the inhabitants.
They said that a large number of families in Soibugh are struggling financially and are unable to clear their pending electricity dues within the existing deadline fixed under the Amnesty Scheme. They maintained that without an extension, many households risk penalties and possible power disconnections.
The protesters said Soibugh is a poor and underdeveloped area where livelihoods are limited and living costs have increased significantly, making it difficult for people to manage accumulated electricity bills in a short period.
Holding placards and maintaining silence throughout the protest, the participants said the demonstration was aimed at peacefully conveying their concerns to the authorities without disrupting public order.
Locals collectively appealed to the District Administration Budgam and concerned PDD officials to take a humanitarian view of the situation and announce an extension of the Amnesty Scheme so that economically weaker sections can avail the benefit without fear of disconnection.
They expressed hope that the administration would respond positively to their appeal and ensure that no household is deprived of electricity due to financial constraints beyond their control. [KNT]
