Bandipora, Dec 11, KNT: Brick kiln owners and workers from Chandipora and adjoining areas in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district staged a peaceful protest, urging the administration to reconsider recent enforcement measures taken against several brick kilns in the district. Protesters said the continuing crackdown has jeopardised the livelihood of hundreds of labourers and local families dependent on the brick-making sector.
Scores of workers assembled along the Chandipora stretch, carrying placards and appealing to authorities to review the action. Demonstrators voiced their concerns by raising slogans including “Modi Ji insaf kro” and “Manoj Sinha Sahab insaf kro,” insisting that the decisions taken by officials have caused severe economic distress in the area.
Kiln owners told KNT that many families have already been pushed into uncertainty, as seasonal workers rely solely on kiln operations for income during peak months. They said the administration should hold consultations with stakeholders rather than imposing measures that disrupt an entire workforce.
Protesters appealed to the district authorities and the Labour and Industries Departments to assess the ground realities and take steps that safeguard employment while ensuring regulatory compliance. [KNT]
