Srinagar: Police in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district have apprehended three individuals linked to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant group. The arrests were made during a joint operation by the Anantnag Police, the Army, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
According to an official statement, the arrests were made during a routine checkpoint operation at Wopzan Trijunction. The individuals detained have been identified as Umaiq Mushtaq Zargar, a resident of Karewa Colony Bijbehara; Ishfaq Ahmad Dar, from Dar Mohalla Arwani; and Shahid Ahmad Gadhanji, also from Dar Mohalla Arwani.
During the operation, security forces recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including one pistol, two pistol magazines, 23 rounds of pistol ammunition, and two grenades. Preliminary investigations suggest that the trio was planning to carry out subversive activities in the Anantnag district under the direction of LeT handlers.
A case has been registered at the Bijbehara Police Station under FIR No. 172/2024, with charges including sections of the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The investigation is ongoing.
