Srinagar, July 11: Hujjat-ul-Islam Aga Syed Mujtaba Abbas Mosavi Al-Safvi, while addressing thousands of mourners during the historic 25th Muharram Zuljanah procession at Shalimar on the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Zain-ul-Abidin (AS), said that the sacrifices of the Ahlul Bayt (AS), particularly Imam Hussain (AS), represent an eternal charter of justice, human dignity, truth and resistance against oppression.
He said that the religion of Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (PBUH) is founded upon mercy, justice, compassion and Divine guidance, and that Imam Hussain (AS) laid down his life not for worldly power but to uphold human dignity, Islamic values and the supremacy of truth.
Describing Muharram as more than a month of mourning, Aga Syed Mujtaba said it is a universal movement that awakens the human conscience and calls upon the Muslim Ummah to rise above divisions and stand united in support of the oppressed across the world. He lamented the inability of global powers and international institutions to protect innocent people, adding that the true measure of civilisation lies not in military might but in defending the rights of the oppressed.
Paying rich tributes to Martyr Rahbar-e-Moazzam Ayatollah al-Uzma Syed Ali Khamenei (RA), he described him as one of the foremost contemporary symbols of resistance against tyranny and global arrogance. He said the late leader devoted his life to the struggle for justice, dignity and steadfastness, and that his martyrdom had infused the movement of resistance with renewed strength and inspiration. Referring to the massive public participation in his funeral, Aga Syed Mujtaba said it reflected his moral authority, exceptional courage and global popularity.
He asserted that martyrdom is not defeat but the highest victory of truth, as no military power can overcome an ideology founded upon faith, sacrifice and righteousness. Quoting the historic words of Imam Ruhollah Khomeini that “America cannot do a damn thing,” he said oppressive powers may wage wars, unleash destruction and assassinate leaders, but they can never eliminate the ideals of resistance. He further stated that the institution of Wilayat al-Faqih is not dependent on any single individual but is a resilient and enduring system based on leadership, scholarship and continuity.
Remembering Imam Zain-ul-Abidin (AS), Aga Syed Mujtaba said that through extraordinary patience, perseverance and spiritual leadership, Imam Sajjad (AS) transformed the tragedy of Karbala into an everlasting movement of moral and intellectual awakening, demonstrating that nations attain honour through sacrifice and that the message of truth can never be extinguished.
He strongly condemned the registration of FIRs, raids and the alleged harassment of mourners who paid tribute to the martyred leader, terming such actions unjustified and unacceptable. He called for full respect for the democratic and religious rights of peaceful citizens.
Speaking on the political situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Aga Syed Mujtaba reminded the National Conference government that the public mandate was not confined to the restoration of statehood alone but also included commitments regarding the restoration of Articles 370 and 35A. He questioned why the proposed protest at Jantar Mantar focused only on statehood while remaining silent on Articles 370 and 35A, as well as the release of detainees and political prisoners. He said limiting the aspirations of the people to statehood alone amounts to deviating from the public mandate and urged the government to fulfil all its electoral promises in letter and spirit.
Concluding his address, Aga Syed Mujtaba appealed to mourners to uphold the teachings of Imam Hussain (AS) by ensuring complete cleanliness of roads and public spaces after Muharram processions. He said environmental protection, cleanliness and civic responsibility are integral parts of Hussaini ethics and social consciousness.
The address concluded with the assertion that the sacrifices of Imam Hussain (AS), Imam Zain-ul-Abidin (AS) and Martyr Rahbar-e-Moazzam Ayatollah al-Uzma Syed Ali Khamenei (RA) will continue to inspire humanity to uphold truth, justice, dignity, steadfastness and resistance against oppression for generations to come.
