Srinagar: Hailing from Sopore, Mehvish Rafiqa Firdous, a 22-year-old author and sociology student, has recently published a research-driven book titled Blame Game. In her book, Mehvish sheds light on the alarming prevalence of drug addiction and peddling in Sopore. Her research reveals a startling reality: there is no neighborhood in Sopore untouched by the menace of drug abuse. Through her meticulous analysis, she aims to challenge societal misconceptions surrounding addiction and emphasize the urgent need for collective action.
Mehvish highlights that the inaction of society has allowed drug addiction to grow unchecked, further deepening its roots in the community. She identifies “sensate culture” as a significant driving force behind the rising addiction rates. Moreover, she points out the glaring absence of proper rehabilitation centers in the region, which has hindered efforts to reintegrate addicts into normal life. According to her, this neglect not only damages the present generation but also poses a grave threat to the well-being of future generations.
In Blame Game, Mehvish addresses two critical dimensions of the drug crisis. First, she emphasizes the need to eliminate the social stigma associated with seeking medical help for addiction. She argues that addicts should feel safe and supported in accessing counseling and treatment within their own communities, rather than being forced to seek help far from home. Second, she calls for the unification of various pressure groups in Sopore to build a cohesive societal framework that can effectively tackle this growing menace.
Mehvish’s book serves as a wake-up call for society, urging immediate action to combat addiction through awareness, education, and rehabilitation. She hopes her work will inspire policymakers, social organizations, and individuals to take responsibility and work collectively towards creating a healthier, drug-free Sopore.
With Blame Game, Mehvish Rafiqa Firdous not only highlights the harsh realities of addiction but also provides a roadmap for recovery and societal reform, making it an essential read for anyone invested in the well-being of the community.
